Olympic Investment and Speculative Opportunities
Speculation around the London Olypics will affect the property market as far afield as Aldershot in Hants as well as the East End of London.
So everyone in the UK has shelled out their hard-earned tax money so that London can host the Olympics. Whats in it for us?
Olympic Gravy Train - Jump On
Its not just London that will feel the Olympic effect. Places as far afield as ALDERSHOT are big winners. BISLEY, on the other hand, has missed out
Shooting Ranges
The gravy train runs on a roller coaster. Having for so long hosted many world class shooting events, including the Commonwealth Games (not to mention
the 1908 and in 1948 Olympic Games),
Bisley must've thought that it would be hosting the Olympic Games. Unfortunately for Bisley completely new facilities for the shooting events will be
built in Woolwich. The cost to the tax payer of this master stroke will be (at least) 20 million pounds. The end result of this 20 million pound
"investment"? Nothing. Nothing will remain after the Olympic games because the entire Woolwich facility will demolished again afterwards. Had Bisley been
chosen instead the cost to the taxpayer would've been 6 Million pounds. Furthermore, since the Bisley shooting ranges are a permanent fixture, the
investment would be of permanent use.
Aldershot
Aldershot Army base has been chosen as the training camp for the British Olympic team ahead of London 2012. This is a huge shot in the arm for Aldershot,
now that the army has moved out. As an army base Aldershot has lagged behind similar sized towns in the South of England. Now that the army has moved
out it is expected that the town will move considerably more upmarket. This will definately affect property prices favourably.
"After much deliberation, our panel has decided Aldershot has the best package to meet Team GB's needs," said British Olympic Association boss Simon Clegg
Aldershot already has Olympic quality training facilities, which helped towards being chosen.
Aldershot is currently enjoying the benefits of a £12bn regeneration scheme and recently was named one of UK's most popular places to live.
